Catching up with the Blog!

I don't think I'll be able to catch up with everything that has passed since out last entry.
Here are a few things that have happened and that are happening in our lives:
1. I Finished Nursing school on May,12, 2011. I am so happy! I am preparing to take the State Boards this Saturday. Nerve racking!!! Im also looking for employment.
2. Asha Just Finished 4th grade at Shirley Lane and Bryce fished 2nd grade at Virginia Ave. They both were awarded Perfect attendance this year :)
3. This year I turned 31 in February. Im getting old!
4. My family is coming to visit from Texas this summer and we are looking forward to it.
5.Bryce lost his first 2 and front bottom teeth just a few months ago. He got $3 from the tooth fairy
6.Our home got burglarized in the most horrible way back in January right before starting my last semester of Nursing school. We lost many things and It was devastating to us but we are safe and material things can always get replaced. Im still sad about my video camera and laptop that had tons of documents, videos, and pictures that I lost and wont be able to ever recover. It's ok Life goes on.
7.Bryce learned how to read really well this past year in school.
8. Bryan keeps working hard at his job. Seriously he is the worst workaholic I've ever met! to the point that it has affected his health. Take it easy Bryan! I love you.
9.Tio Neri had the great Blessing of getting Married at the LA temple and now they are expecting a baby. What a great blessing.

10. My good old dear friends Joanna, Barbie, and their kids came to visit this last month. It was so nice seeing them and spending time with them.

11. I continue to teach the sunbeems at church and I love it :)
12. Bryce gets baptized this year! He is looking forward to this great day. We got to attend a baptism not to long ago and Bryce was really excited to be able to get baptized by his dad this coming September.
13. Asha continues to enjoy singing and reading and being so sweet.
14. I have major house cleaning to accomplish this summer. It got a little neglected due to school :)
15. Above all, we continue to enjoy of the blessings of the gospel. God is wonderful and we couldn't ask for more.

Another overwhelming day but I survived. Bryan welcomed me home with an awesome dinner (Carne asada, Tostadas de guacamol con queso y frijolitos negros) Thanks baby!
There is always light at the end of the tunnel with God by our side and I know for sure he was with me today. Now I just have to concentrate on my Oral process and pass all of my exams.
I can do this!

Let me tell you a bit about Bryce's costume. This year I just didn't have the funds or the time to look for the kids costumes so Bryce was really creative and thought about building himself a Mad Scientist costume. He was so creative and came up with it all on his own from the stuff he already had laying around in his room. He asked if he could borrow my Nursing lab coat to complete his creation. I really hesitated letting him borrow my coat but he was so excited about it so I let him borrow it. At his school they always have a costume parade and contest. This morning he got up and got dressed and ready for his parade. He was so confident and proud of his creation and told me: "Mom I hope I win the costume contest at my school" . I told him he looked great and not to be sad if he didn't win since there were going to be over 500 kids competing with many great costumes like his. Well to make the story short. He came home with a huge smile on his face. He had won the costume contest!!! It was great.

Keeping busy!!! (Blog update)

Wow. I just realized how long it has been since I last posted on our blog. First of all I just have to express all of the things I am grateful for. Looking back and pondering on my last post, I realize all of the things that have happened in our lives since then. I am past the middle of my 3rd semester of nursing school. I am still hanging in there and I will be finishing school in May of next year if everything goes as planned. I have developed some special friendships through the nursing program and I don't take that for granted. We help each other out and carry the load together. Without their support, nursing school would be even harder.
My kiddos are now in 4Th and 2ND grade. They are growing quick in all sense of the word and my wonderful husband and partner in crime is also hanging in there with me pushing me a long the way and taking on the extra load. Thank you guys for being so patient with mommy! I love you and I couldn't do this without your love, hugs, kisses, hard work, and support. Above all, I cannot forget about the one who shares all of my burdens and walks with me constantly and holds me up every step of the way, my best friend. With out him I would be nothing. Thank you God for being super nice and patient with me.
On another note, I cannot believe how time goes by so fast. We are almost at the end of this year, Incredible!!!
Anyway, I better go but I will try to keep this blog updated more regularly so we can look back and remember the good times in the lives of the Orton family. God bless you all :)

I am Officially a quarter of a nurse!!!

Yay! I took my last final for this semester and I am now officially a quarter of a nurse as my Pharmacology instructor calls it. I have three more semesters to go.
I am also excited to start the paid internship program at Mercy and Mercy South West during my x-mas break. I was pretty blessed to get chosen out of 80 students to participate in this great program that will provide me with lots of hands on experience. I will now be taking care of 4-5 patients at a time instead of the 2 that I'm used to. It will be a great challenge and an incredible opportunity for growth. I am truly grateful and super excited!!!

This year in Primary, the kids have learned so many things through this year's Primary theme "My eternal family". They had their primary program this month and they have taught us all so many essential things in building strong eternal families. We are all so grateful for the spirit they always bring to that special sacrament meeting. God bless our little tender children and God bless the special union of families. May we preserve this special blessing in our homes.

So Many Reasons To Say Thanks

Among the busy schedules we all face and despite the daily trials and tribulations of life. We have so many things to be thankful for. For food on our tables, for the rising sun, for the song of the birds, for the air we breath, and above all, for the great love of our savior and Redeemer because it is through him that everything we are, and everything we do is possible.
This year, I had decided that we would not do anything for thanksgiving since I have been super busy with school among other things. Bryan felt the same way he is struggling at work and has been a bit discouraged. Asha and Bryce on the other hand had been looking forward to this holiday. Yet here we are, making the mashed potatoes and the turkey, the green beans and the stuffing despite the pile of notes I have to study, and the pile of laundry waiting to be washed. We realize there are so many reasons to leave other things aside for a while and focus on the important things of the moment. This holiday season we have so many reasons to kneel down in thanks for our many blessings. Here are some things that we individually and as a family are thankful for this year.

Bryan: I am thankful for Ilcy, Asha, and Bryce.
Ilcy: I am thankful for the power of prayer. I am thankful for the power of our minds to have the ability to learn so many things.
Asha: I am thankful for houses so we can have somewhere to live so we can have beds. I am thankful for this wonderful world so we can live somewhere were it's safe.
Bryce: I am thankful for Jesus because he is nice and, I am thankful for Santa because he gives us toys.

Bryce turned 6 this past 19th of September. It has been crazy so I really haven't had the time to post this great milestone. Bryce has been learning so much at school. He likes science. He is a very smart boy.

This year for his birthday he wanted to celebrate it Bakugan style. He invited some school and church friends and had a blast at his birthday party.

He received a bunch of Bakugan toys for his birthday to add to his collection.

Here are some facts and some accomplishments he was able to complete this past year.

He learned 5 articles of faith.
He entered 1st grade
He learned how to tie his shoe laces
He is adding and subtracting
He still continues to be a loving boy and also a very funny boy

Nursing school

Well I have survived the 1st 5 weeks of nursing school.
I have taken tons of exams averaging about 3 per week on top of additional quizzes. The kids and Bryan are hanging in there. Our house has gotten messy but at this point we are just trying to survive and get only the necessities of the day (food, clean clothes, showers and as much sleep as it is allowed) It has been a roller coaster for the Ortons. In brief I can say how thankful I am for Bryan and all of his help. And above all, I am thankful to the lord for keeping us alive and well overall. I love Nursing school. Sometimes I do wish I just had a little more time to accomplish everything that is required of me . I have learned to live a day at a time and do my best to keep smiling. This past Friday, was my first day of clinic and I was assigned my first patient. I hope I remember everything I have learned so far so I can apply it. It is very exciting but also terrifying.

Back To School Tommorow

After a fun summer break full of activities and vacationing the kids and I will be returning to school tomorrow. We definitely took advantage of the summer break to spend as much quality time as a family as possible. We went to the beach. We went camping. We went to the movies. We visited Universal Studios and City Walk. We also took a very special trip to the LA temple as a family. We enjoyed a day at Raging Waters. We visited the Planetarium and Observatory in LA. We visited our local library and attended free local community events. We laughed and had meals together as many times as we could. I hugged, kissed, tickled, and read with the kids as much as I could. We had fun cooking and preparing meals together. Now we hope that those memories we built together during the summer will hold us up in unity during our busy schedules that are about to begin. Asha will be entering 3rd grade, Bryce will begging 1st grade, and I will be starting the RN program at BC. It will be an interesting year full of many emotions but I know we will succeed with the Lord's help. Bryan will have to step in and fill more responsibilities at home on top of his full time job. I am grateful for all of his support during my career. I couldn't ask for a better husband. I will have to make some major adjustments for everything to work well and be balanced in all of the aspects of life. I know my main source of strength lies in my Savior and his gospel. Through his help, I also know that I will be able to keep full filling my calling in the Primary presidency at church and manage everything else in my life. Tomorrow morning we will also be receiving our priesthood blessing through Bryan and I am grateful to have that privilege in our home.

Special visitors from Texas and Guatemala!

This past week we have been blessed to be able to see my family. My parents and brothers came from Texas and My aunt and cousin came from Guatemala. It has been truly a blessing for them to be here from far away. They were able to attend Asha's baptism and it has been so nice to share those special moments with them.
We had the opportunity to spend some great quality time and to have celebrate the joys of life together as a family. Today, My parents went Back to Texas and this morning was hard to wake up and say goodbye to them but I know the Lord has been so merciful to give us the chance to see each other and I know his love abounds in our hearts and keeps us united across the miles. I'm so grateful for family.

Asha's Birthday Party #8 Hannah Montana style

Asha Celebrated big at her birthday Party here at Home with her family and friends Hannah Montana Theater style. She had lots of fun! The celebration took place Tuesday August 18th. 2009. Everyone arrived ,walked the red carpet and entered the fun. The children had to each bring their movie ticket enclosed in their invitation and upon entering the theater (Our House) they received Hannah Montana Bucks for purchases at the concession stand.
They had Pocorn, hotdogs, candy, drinks, and sat down to see the Movie premier of Hannah Montana the movie. They patiently waited for the curtains to open and the party started!
Asha had lots of fun along with everyone else. After the movie, we all had cake and Ice cream and Asha opened her presents and thanked all of her guests for joining in on the fun!

A Very special Day, "Asha's Baptism"

On Saturday August 15, 2009. Asha made a very special covenant with her Father in heaven.
She had been fervently preparing for her baptism. We had many discussions about it during our family home evenings and sharing time at Church previous to that day. When the time finaly came, she felt ready and joyful to make this special covenant. I had prepared a special Baptism book for her to record all of the special things about her baptism. In one of the pages, there was a brief explination of the commitment she would be making and a blank space for her to sign. I explained to her how a covenant worked and she asked if it was like making a pinky swear with Heavenly Father and I said yes. After she read and signed the page, she lifted up her pinky toward heaven and winked to Heavenly Faher. It was so touching for me to see this. In her child heart I knew she had gotten the point and It was joyous to see her so commited. I also realized that Asha shared a beautiful and close relationship with her Heavenly Father. It was so beautiful to see her enter the waters of Baptism and be baptized by her father. After her baptism, I met her outside of the font and the things that happened then I rather hold and treasure in my heart because they are so sacred to post online.
One thing I do want to share, is my brief testimony about the truth of the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am so greatful for my Father in Heaven who loves us so much and has created a beautiful plan of happiness for all of us his children. This happiness is within our reach for all of those who desire it. It is a gift and can only be ours if we seek for it and accept the atonement of our savior Jesus Christ and his gospel in our lives.
It was so joyous to see Asha take this important step toward eternal happiness.

Today we are celebrating with Asha 8 years of life.
She is so excited mainly because she will be getting baptized in 1 week. We decided to go camping for a day since this was one of our summer plans. So here we are camping in Tehachapi. To Celebrate Asha's Birthday, we went and stopped at Baskin Robbins for a delicious scoop of Ice cream. Asha picked the American Birthday cake flavor of course and enjoyed every bit of it!

Yesterday we celebrated 9 years together. Life Couldn't be better for us. Despite our struggles, and worries, We grow stronger everyday. God has blessed us with each other and I'm so thankful for the company and love of my best friend. We celebrated our anniversary at Tahoe Joe's. It was nice to remember the memories we have built together and hold deep in our hearts.

Last month, after the Kids and I finished the school year, We decided at the last minute to take a brake from Bakersfield for a day. It was nice to just get in the car and drive away. Since we didn't have a lot of money, we decided to take a trip to Universal City walk. It was so much fun to window shop! We had a great family time, and together we built some awesome and unforgettable memories.

Today we celebrate Our dear Country

I feel so much joy in my heart to be able to form part of this blessed Nation. As I sat down to ponder on this day, we have so many things to be grateful for. My heart is filled with gratitude for all of the blessings Heavenly Father has given me by bringing me to this country. Here I have found the opportunity to a brighter future. I met and married my eternal companion and friend and formed my wonderful family. This country has opened the doors to me and my family and has blessed me with peace and freedom. Here I have grown in many aspects of life. I've had the opportunity to learn and develop physically, Academically, financially and spiritually. I consider myself very blessed to form part of two beautiful Countries: Guatemala, my first home, a blessed and beautiful land and the place of my birth and glorious childhood, and The United Sates, whom I love just the same . God Bless America, my home, sweet home.

We wish the Daddy in our home a very happy Father's day!!! That wish is also extended to all the fathers in our family and to all other hard working dads out there. God bless you all.
Bryan, I want to thank you for all of the hard work you do for our family. You bring in so much to our life. Many things would not be possible if it wasn't for you (smashing bugs crawling in the house, is one of them lol). I love you so much. You are our source of strength and joy.
Today, we tried our best to make Dad happy and as relaxed as possible. He even took a nice and well deserved Sunday nap in his "Speed Racer" Pj's the kids got him. He was a happy guy :)
Asha Gave her first talk in Sacrament.The bishop called us a few days in advance and asked for Asha to speak on Father's day. I gave her a piece of paper and asked her to write the things that came to her mind and heart about her dad . she wrote the talk all by herself expressing the most sincere things and feelings about her dad and it was beautiful! I Know it was one of Bryan's best Father's day presents ever. Along with Asha's talk, there were more beautiful talks given today about fathers. The primary children also sang. It was a very special meeting.
As presents, we gave Bryan 3 father's Day Cards and some cool little gadgets in addition to his speed racer Pj's. His favorite gadget was a digital coin counter auto mug. He loved it since he is always collecting all this loose change in his pocket. He also celebrated Father's day this weekend the boys style. He and Bryce along with all of the men in our ward went to a Father son camping trip. The boys had fun. We hope Bryan had a nice Father's day.
One thing we also want to express is How grateful we are for our Father in Heaven,the greatest, kindest, and most loving and perfect father of all.
Last night when Asha said her night prayer I would have never imagined she would wish both of her fathers a Happy Father's Day. I ended up crying because I didn't even think of wishing my Father in Heaven a Happy Father's day but It is very clear that Asha is very mindful of Heavenly Father and includes him in everything she does. She expressed : "Heavenly Father, Happy Father's day. Thank you for my dad. I love you and I love my dad so much much..."
and with this in mind, I want to express how thankful I am for my Father in Heaven, for his love, and for everything he blesses me and my family with each and every day.
God bless all of the father's in the world.

"Mom, I need Advil pm"

Yesterday, very serious and concerned, Bryce came to me and said, "Mom I think I need Advil pm. Can you please switch me to Advil pm?" I was astonished and laughing so hard inside of me! and then I replied, Why do you think you need Advil pm and where did you hear about it? He told me he had just seen a commercial on TV where they explained how it could help people sleep. He explained how he though this was the perfect solution for him because when I put him to sleep in his room at night he can't fall asleep especially when It gets dark after I turn the light off. He thought this could help him fall asleep fast so he wouldn't have to sit in the dark for a long time and start getting scared.
His response touched my heart and I realized this was a serious matter for him and I should also treat it with the importance it deserved. I explained to him that he didn't need this product and that it was only for grown ups when they felt really sick. I advised him to think of alternate ways to solve his problem and mentioned prayer as one of them. He then said "after prayer I will just keep my eyes closed and eventually I will fall asleep". I thought this was a great Idea.

Getting structured and learning dicipline

Our family life is going through some major transitions. With me starting school full time soon and Bryan's new job schedule and salary, we are trying to organize our life style and structure our family life to a better system. We have started this new reward program for the kids and so far it has been working great. The first day was rough but now; they are doing all of their tasks without complaining. It's just wonderful and I recommend it to all parents if you are not doing so already. From saying their daily prayers to making their beds and cleaning up after themselves, these kids are working extra hard to gain their weekly allowance. I love It!!! Our Summer break is going to be the best one yet if they continue doing what they have been. We have already learned 3 articles of faith and have been reading our scriptures and exercising daily. Not to brag or anything, but I feel so proud of these kids :) Most of all, this program is preparing Asha in the best way toward baptism. The other day, she said to me: "Mom, after I turn 8, I can't do anything wrong anymore so I better practice now". She is really trying and succeeding.
Bryce on the other hand, Is being extra helpful around the house and encourages Asha when she gets a little lazy. Today however, they got a sad face on their chart for fighting each other. They felt horrible after the fact. Asha said to me crying: "Mom, My heart hurts because I pushed Bryce and he fell of the bed, I'm really sorry and sad for him" As a mother, It hurt me so much to give them that sad face on the chart after they felt truly sorry and apologized; but I still did so they would learn discipline and not to do it again. I know they just acted impulsively at the time because they were frustrated. I think how hard must be for Heavenly father to discipline us when we do wrong. Oh how grateful I am for his love and for assisting me in my role as a mother even when I fail to do right.

These are some pictures of our trip to the beach in April. We visited, Cayucos, Morro Bay, Pismo and Cambria beaches. We had a great time relaxing taking a well deserved break as a family. It has been one of the best trips we have ever taken at the last minute. We truly gained so much from it. We are thankful for families and good times together.

We usually do our Family Home evening on Sundays since I usually attend school Monday evenings. For Family Home evening today, We made a new assignment chart. It is simple and it will work for now. We discussed our summer plans and the things we need to accomplish and maintain since kids get the impression that vacation means just sitting around doing nothing productive. I made assignment charts for the kids to work on and I incorporated tithing in them. At the end of every week, Bryan and I will give the kids a $1.00.allowance if they meet their assignments. This will remind them to pay their tithing every week, even if it is just a dime. One of our goals is to learn all 13 articles of faith by August, prior to Asha's baptism. In primary, we will have an Ice-cream social for the kids who learn them all. Bryan gave us the lesson today and he shared the message he received at church today during the combined meeting. I have attached a small video of the message he shared. It really touched our hearts and made us realize the importance of keeping our minds and hearts open to the spirit and of the importance of writing in our journals.

3 month Update :)

Well, We have sure been absent from the Internet for a while. Many wonderful things have happened to us in the past few months and we cannot but express gratitude to our Creator for all of our many blessings. Bryan is employed after a few days with out a job and many worries. Thank you Bryan for your hard work and for providing our family with everything we need. Heavenly Father is so mindful of our needs. We are grateful for that. As for me, I have been called to serve as 1st counselor in the Primary presidency for 1st ward. I Am truly enjoying the spirit of those beautiful children. They teach us so much :) I have been serving since April and this month, I have been in charge of Sharing time. I have had to rely on the spirit a lot to know and understand the needs of the children I serve, so I can deliver the message the lord wants me to teach. This month's theme is "Baptism and confirmation are ordinances that bless my family" I am specially thankful to teach on this subject as Asha is preparing to make this sacred covenant in August. Asha and Bryce are also very happy to have me in Primary. On Another note, I have also been working hard in school. After 2 long years of prerequisite classes, I finally got my acceptance letter into the RN program at BC. Two days ago, (May 28th 2009), I also took and passed the TEAS test, a 4 hour exam and one of the requirements to enter the RN program. I spent a whole month studying for it along with prayer and it finally happened. I'm officially In!!! I cannot express how happy I am to take on Nursing school! I had been waiting for this for a long time. Among our many joys, we are also happy to announce Bryce's graduation from Kindergarten! He worked so hard this year and learned so many things. Now he can read and write simple sentences, add and subtract, and count by 2's, 5's, and 10's to 100. He was awarded a writing recognition by his teacher at the end of the year.We are so proud of you Bryce!!! keep working hard. Asha on the other hand, finished 2nd grade and got a recognition award in reading. You will always see that child with a book. This year, she is concentrating on reading the scriptures in preparation for her upcoming baptism. She is so excited!!! Every year as her birthday approaches, all she talks about is her party but this year, all she talks about is her baptism. We are so proud of you Asha for your great desire. I am just happy I get to be In Primary and take a greater part in helping her prepare for this special day. The other day, I put together a baptism book for her to help her prepare to make that covenant and to record her memories of the special event. It has been 3 very special past months. Our plans for this summer, include taking a camping trip sometime before the summer's over. My Parents will also be coming from Texas in August for Asha's birthday and baptism. it will be so fun! This summer, I am also Applying for US citizenship and making tons of preparations for Nursing school. I'm excited :)

February 2009 Update

OK. So here is a quick update of what has been going on in the Orton Household in the past month.n Despite Bryan almost loosing his Job, we have been very blessed. Bryan is doing OK in this job for now. It has been rough not knowing what our economic stand will be in the near future but We have faith that the lord will provide if we are faithful. So many people are going through rough times.

I celebrated my 29th birthday and I am thankful for another year of life and many other blessings.
I'm still working on finishing school and doing photography on the side. The kids are growing by the minute it seems like. They are doing well in school and both have been awarded for their hard work.

So many things have happened both good, and bad, happy, and sad.
My good friend Stacey lost her brother in a car accident this month. Being close to her, we all have been affected by the situation. He is now in a better place though. I had the opportunity to help out the family as much as I could and I also spoke at the funeral which was held at the "A" street building. I Share this because I think it was a great missionary opportunity to share some of the basic gospel principles with over 300 non-members that attended the services. He had lots of great friends. Rest in Peace Brian Bailey.

We also had the opportunity this month to speak in church on the topic of Charity. Both Bryan and I enjoyed this assignment very much as we learned from the topic ourselves.

We celebrated Valentines Day here at the house with a nice dinner.

Just yesterday, Bryan informed me that after a visit to the doctor and some tests done, He is at a high risk for diabetes and perhaps also be suffering from heart decease. It is very scary! Now he is in a 1500 cal. diet. We all pray that the Lord will be with us and with Bryan on the quest for better health.
I have been also trying to eat healthier and teach my kids the same.
Anyway, It has been a month of growth in all aspects for us all here at the Orton household.

First ward's GNO @ Peking Palace

So today I got invited to GNO with the girls from my ward.

We went to Peking Palace a Chinese restaurant. It was so much fun to go and get to know the girls better. I Really needed this since I tend to be a little reserved and not as talkative and one of my goals this year is to get out of my shell and get to know more people. I loved spending time with my ward sisters and I loved the food! I had never been there so I didn't know what to order of the menu. I finally decided to be good to myself and I ended up ordering a veggie and rice plate and split it in half. I'm really trying to eat healthier and less this year :)

The whole experience was awesome until I decided to bend over to the side to reach for my keys and my left foot got tangled to my chair and I felt sideways along with the chair all the way to the floor. It was so embarrassing but funny at the same time. I really had lots of fun and I love my ward sisters. :)

Goals for 2009

This past Sunday was a Sunday to set goals for this year. We had Ward Conference and It was just awesome. Our Bishop and President Russell spoke in our sacrament meeting and gave us some goals to accomplish as a ward as well as individuals. I will write those down once I get the list. This Sunday we also sat down as family for FHE and wrote down our family goals.
Each Member of our family wrote their goals and posted them somewhere visible so we could read them and work on them daily. We are
super inspired and have a sense that this year will be a very special one as we work diligently to accomplish the goals we have set.
A couple of Sundays ago, In relief society, we had a lesson about goal setting and Sister Beesley gave us a handout that had an outline of how to reach our goals

With this in mind it will be easier to work on our goals and get them accomplished

For this month's First Ward's power Hour we had a service project called "Broken Things to Mend" inspired by a talk given by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the twelve. We were asked to bring things from our home that had to be fixed so we could share our talents and help fix those broken items. It was a very successful and inspiring activity. It is a reminder to us all to fix those broken things in our lives both spiritual and physical keeping in mind that we are not alone. We have the Lord, our family, friends, and church leaders to help us along the way. Elder Holland expresses:
"If you are lonely, please know you can find comfort. If you are discouraged, please know you can find hope. If you are poor in spirit, please know you can be strengthened. If you feel you are broken, please know you can be mended." -Jeffrey R. Holland

Happy New year every one!
This year we celebrated New years Eve at home like we do every year. Our friends Stacey and Victor, and Bryan's Dad Neil, Jeff, and Jason came over and we chatted and played Family feud.
The kids went to bed early but they had fun during the day creating a ginger bread house.
On New Years day, we went shopping for some snow gear to go to the snow the following Saturday and then we went to the dollar theatre to watch "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" for the second time. We really like the movie :)
That Saturday we went to the snow up in Shirley Meadows. We had a blast despite the fact that I don't own any snow boots and my shoes didn't have any traction so I slipped like 12 times. The same thing happened to Bryce. We couldn't find any snow boots for Bryce after searching 9 stores the day before. It was Crazy.
We are thankful for another year of life and are thrilled to see what this year has in store for us.
So far we have received some great news. My Sister in Law Cherie is finally pregnant after trying to have a baby for a few years. We are so happy for her and John and are so thrilled to have another baby in the family. Bryan is staying positive in his job and working as hard as he can since they raised the quota for sales. All we know is that the lord is mindful of our needs and he will provide what we need as long a we do our part and pay our tithing. I continue to wait to get in to the Nursing program at BC and taking some classes on the side to stay focused. Asha continues to work hard at school and growing in mind and spirit every day. Bryce has taken a big leap in his learning. He now knows how to count to 100 by ones, fives, and tens. He is reading! I can't believe how much he has grown and how independent he is becoming. We will continue to press forward with faith and stay positive through out 2009.

1ST. WARD CHRISTMAS DINNER

We had a great Ham dinner and a great program. Asha, Bryce and I each had the opportunity to sing some Christmas musical numbers.

THE ORTON'S FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY

December 15th.

This was a very special family gathering at our house in which we had a wonderful time celebrating the birth of our savior. We had the party a little early since we had to travel to Texas for Christmas.

The celebration included Dinner, a christmas program in which we had the privilage to see all of the grandkids act out the Nativity, while Cherie, Melinda, and I did a trio singing "Away in a manger"accompanied by Janine who played the flute . After the program, we opened presents from the gift exchange and we had super fun playing Bunko as a family.

In Lubbock, We went to this Christmas Ornament store. It has become a tradition in the Perez Family to go to this beautiful store full of thousands of Christmas ornaments every year to start the holiday season and invite the spirit of Christmas. It was so wonderful and the kids had a great time looking at all of the beautiful ornaments.

I found these cool Christmas Caroler ornaments.

I like the one in the front the best so I bought it and brought it home ;) hee hee hee.

GUATEMALAN TAMALES

Christmas wouldn't be the same without our delicious Guatemalan Tamales.

Prepared with Masa and pork or chicken, covered with a recado, a sauce made with Chiles, Tomatoes, pumpkin and sesame seeds and other spices and wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf for a wonderful and unique flavor.

A tradition in all Guatemalan families and certainly in ours.

This year was particularly special since I had the opportunity to make them with my mom.

Holiday fun! and Christmas thoughts

We are super excited and getting everything ready for our trip to Texas to visit Ilcy's parents this Xmas. We will be leaving this Saturday early morning and coming back on December 27th. This will be our first Xmas in Texas. We haven't spent a Xmas with Ilcy's parents in 5 years so it will be pretty special. We are looking forward to make Guatemalan tamales and ponche, a delicious Guatemalan hot fruit beverage on our visit to Lubbock.
There have been so many things going on in our household and it has been hectic but definitely full of fun! We had our yearly xmas celebration and gift exchangewith the Orton side of the family this Monday since we couldn't be here for Xmas this year. It was really a special evening.
We had dinner at 5 and a special Xmas program that Ilcy Put together for the evening. Ilcy, Melinda, and Cherie, sang "Away in a manger" in English and Spanish while all of the kids played out the Nativity dressed up in costumes. They all did well. After the gift exchange we all gathered for a fun game of Bunko! That Stacey put together. Everyone got to come and It was so much fun. "The best Christmas gift of all is the presence of a happy family all wrapped up with one another"-unknown.
Yesterday evening we had the privilege to attend Asha's Xmas program at her school. It was a really cute program put together by all of the 2ND graders at Virginia Ave. Elementary.
The kids did an amazing job at acting out their parts and memorizing all of the songs.
There are still many things to get accomplished this holiday season. But the most important and special part of it is that it all involves celebrating our savior with acts of kindness and love toward every one. Christmas It is definitely the best holiday of all! from sending Christmas cards to baking cookies and wrapping presents and telling everyone how much you care for them.
We are enjoying it so much.
Yesterday, Asha requested that we make a cake and sing happy birthday to Jesus so we will be doing that this year.
Today for mutual Bryan and the youth of the church will be going Xmas caroling. How fun is that!
On Friday, Asha and Bryce will be having their classroom Xmas parties and we have our ward's Xmas dinner where Ilcy will be performing Oh Holy night, Asha will sing "When Christmas comes to town" and Bryce will perform a cute song he learned at school.
We also want to express our gratitude this holiday season for coming in contact once again with old and special friends and for keeping in touch with all of our friends through the wonderful world of Internet.

I just couldn't resist to post this.
I went to enrichment meeting this yesterday. It was so nice. We had soup and bread for dinner and we had a white elephant gift exchange. It was a lot of fun :)
But the point is, that Sister Beasley told me something really funny that Asha had said to Katie her daughter ( Asha's primary teacher) this past Sunday.
Let me start by saying that Asha is a very cute innocent girl and she has a particular personality that defines her. She is always eager to learn and she likes to ask a lot of questions about anything and everything. She is really curious in an innocent way and loves to observe people and their actions.
Having said that, let me continue by saying that On Sunday while Katie was giving the lesson to the class, Asha Asked her: Teacher, do you have underwear on?
Katie: Yes Asha Of course I do
Asha: What color is it?
Katie (with a confused expression): It's Pink!
Asha: Mine too! then she gave her the biggest smile and said: You are my favorite teacher!
I really have no Idea where this came from. She loves pink! I figured Only Asha could think of things like this to ask.

We were cracking up over this.
I'm telling you. Kids say the funniest things!

Bryce and his Classroom celebrated Thanksgiving today.
In the Morning they got to write on their journals expressing what they were thankful for.
They made pilgrim hats and made special turkeys stuffed with beans and a recipe to make

"Gobble good bean soup"
They had a delicious Thanksgiving feast! It included, Turkey, rolls, corn,Tamales, sliced apples, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and hot chocolate. I volunteered to carve the Turkey so I had a greasy but fun experience! The Kids had a wonderful time.

American Indian Day

Today, Bryce celebrated American Indian Day at school.
Both him and I learned a lot about Indians today. The children had so many cute and interesting activities. They made indian costumes.They planted corn and used fish in the soil as plant food. They went fishing with spears in a made up stream with paper fish. They also got to do a rain dance wih noise makers. Each Child even got to take an Indian Baby home with them.
It was are really fun day!

Primary Program 2008

Last Sunday We had the honor of hearing our children speak to us in the yearly Primary program. These are always the best sacrament meetings of all! The children bring a special spirit to these meetings and every one is always anxious to hear what they have to share.
This Year's Primary theme was : I AM A CHILD OF GOD "All of you are children of the most High" Psalm 82:6
All of the children did very well. We thank our Father in Heaven for his great love and for the innocence and purity of Children. What a great example they are to us.

Mystery Solved

On Tuesday, I found myself working on editing some photographs for a customer on my computer and Bryan wasn't home since he was helping at the voting polls all day. When 7:30 came around, I sent the kids to brush their teeth, wash up, and put on their PJ's to go to bed. Once they were finished, Bryce came out of the bathroom and asked if we liked his hair which was all wet, combed, and slick. He looked great! I was so proud of him for getting ready for bed on his own. He said his prayer and went to sleep all on his own. When Bryan got home, he went straight to the bathroom. when he came out, he asked if I had cut my hair. I said no but he didn't believe me because he found hair all over the bathroom and was wondering why I hadn't bothered to clean it up. I went to check and sure enough there was hair everywhere! Bryan went to check Bryce's and Asha's head and couldn't figure out what had happened. I went to double check the kids heads and when I turned on the light to check Bryce's head, I found a huge bald spot. I then discovered 3 more spots. I couldn't but laugh my heart out. The next morning I asked Bryce who had cut his hair. He told me: I did mom. Do you like it? He was so proud of it. Bryan was upset and wanted to shave his head. I just told Bryce that next time he wants to cut his hair we need to take him to a professional barber. He agreed :)

We feel sad and disappointed about the election of our new president.We hope we are wrong about him because so far we haven't seen much good in him at all. All that there is left to do is to pray and to hope that Barack Obama will do justice for this nation. As members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints we have to stand strong and press forward in righteousness in these difficult times. We need to live our lives to the best of our ability, keep our testimonies strong and teach our children in the ways of the lord.
God bless Our new President and God bless America in the days to come. Let's be hopeful :)

Cepillin

I had the great privilege and opportunity to see my dear childhood friend Cepillin.

Most of you will probably not know about Cepillin but let me tell you a little bit about him.
Cepillin is a world wide known famous clown that made me laugh, and sing, and dance, and play when I was a kid living in Guatemala. That is why he is my all time childhood friend. I never saw him in person. I would only watch him on TV and listen to his great songs on the radio or at birthday parties. Even when I turned 26, my tias Vicky, Miriam, and Norita put on his music at my little surprise birthday party. He filled my life with dreams and lots of fun. Well, one day, believe it or not, some years back when Bryan and I still worked at Macy's, Bryan helped this customer. He found out that he was a clown and very famous too. Bryan told me about him a few minutes later. He said: "I just met this famous clown with a funny name. I was helping him pick out some pillows in the bedding section". Yes, It was Cepillin!
Once he told me, Bryan and I rushed down the mall isles and we found him. I told him that it was a great pleasure to meet him in person and he gave me a signed poster. It was like a dream for me but I didn't get the same feeling as in my childhood since he didn't have his clown attire nor that cute funny voice he made. Years passed by, and about 2 weeks ago we found out that he was performing in Bakersfield. I couldn't miss it for the world! I took the kids with me to "El Circo de Cepillin". It was so fun and emotional to sing and dance with him again and to see my children, dance and sing, to the same songs I did when I was a kid.
We bought one of his Cd's at the circus and the kids love him. Thank you Cepillin for bringing so much joy to so many children all around the world.

Today we headed out early morning to go help in the yes on 8 campaign. We were sent out to go distribute signs and door knob reminders. I became the driver, Bryan the deliverer, and the kids were helping holding the signs and having them ready for daddy when he needed more.
It started raining pretty hard so we had to stop at the 99 cent store to buy some rain ponchos.
I came home with the kids after a while But Bryan is still out there walking the streets and doing the job.
Go Bryan!!!!!! keep it up. We love ya.

Yesterday we had a pretty cool time during our Halloween activities.
During the day, each of the kids had Halloween classroom parties. They ate too many sweets.
After school, we visited our tios Vicky, Neri, Y Norita. They shared some walnuts from their tree with us. The kids had a blast picking nuts and eating them too.
After that, We visited Grandma Orton. She had prepared some cute little treat baskets for the kids. After Work, Bryan came home and we headed out for trick or treating in our neighborhood. We went to a few streets for about an hour and returned home to pass out candy to the kids that stopped by our house. Asha and Bryce liked passing out Candy more than they enjoyed receiving it.
Bryce kept yelling to all of the kids: There's Candy Here, come come boys and girls there's candy here.... It was so cute. Asha passed out the candy and gave each kid a complement about their costume or their cute basket. She was so thoughtful and polite like always.
After we finished passing out the candy, We ordered pizza hut and the four of us sat down in our living room to watch the movie Journey to the center of the earth 3D. Asha and Bryce were so exhausted and only lasted about 30 minutes into the movie. We headed to bed around 10:30 pm.

Sleepy heads

The daily routine for the Orton Kids has been that after school, they do homework and go to soccer Practice. They are busy pretty much all day so when 7:30pm comes around, they are pretty tired. Before going to bed and after brushing their teeth, drinking water, and saying their prayers, Mom or dad will read a story to them and mom will sing a good night song which is most of the time, "I love to see the Temple" for Bryce, and "Families can be together forever" for Asha. Then, Asha will get her breathing treatment to control her asthma. This consits of a dose of Pulmicourt Respules and Xopenex. She is a tough and brave little girl when it comes to enduring her treatment sessions which last approximately 20 minutes each. She has to do these daily. Most of the time she's not even able to stay up through the whole thing since she is pretty drained and tired by that time of day. I really enjoy to see them rest not only because Bryan and I also get a break but also because I realize how Important that time is for them to get some well deserved rest. I thank Heavenly Father for night and sleep.

Today Bryce decided that it would be a good Idea to make Chicken noodle sopita for dinner.
He takes after his dad who is always watching the cooking Channel and loves to try out new recipes. Asha is the same way and she likes to help in the kitchen. One day She made Chicken caldo from beginning to end all by herself! She even washed the chicken and everything. I was Impressed.
Anyway, today Bryce and I took on the task together and had so much fun. He claims he made it by himself and that he came up with the recipe. He did decide what vegetables to put in the soup. It turned out great. He welcomed Asha and Daddy with a warm bowl of sopita when they got home from school and work. Good job Bryce! you're turning into a great cook!

Warm Winter Tie Blankets

Since Winter is almost here and I've had some spare time in my hands lately, I've decided to take advantage and make the kids some tie blankets. I went to the fabric store and bough fleece to make the blankets 3 yards long so it could fit their full size beds. I wanted them to be big and cozy! I found the fleece at a good price and bought Asha hot pink and black. I also bought polka dot ribbon in different colors to tie bows on it. For Bryce, I found some fleece with the theme of the movie "Cars". They are turning out pretty good. The kids love them and will get good use out of them for many winters to come.

A Special Sunday

Today was a real Special Sunday for numerous reasons. We had a beautiful Sacrament meeting. It was filled with the most spiritual and beautiful testimonies of the Savior and his gospel. The rest of the meetings were just as powerful. This whole past week, I have felt the power of the adversary as we are trying to fight in the great cause of keeping the sanctity of Marriage. I have lost friends over this issue, It is so sad. Going to church today, has reassured me of the love of the Savior in these difficult times. He is aware of what is going on and he is on our side. That is of great comfort to me. I'm grateful for the blessing of the Gospel. I'm grateful for the knowledge of eternal Families. Today, We closed Sacrament meeting with one of my favorite Hymns "Where can I turn for Peace" This beautiful song, comforted my soul and made me realize that We can only find peace through our Savior and Redeemer.
During Relief Society, my soul was touched again as one of the sisters shared with us her testimony of one of the special gifts she possesses. She said that ever since she was a child when she first learned of Heavenly Father, she knew without a doubt that there was a God who created us and she has never questioned his power nor his love for us. It is a great feeling to know I have the same knowledge of Heavenly Father and I have never questioned him nor his power and love for all of his children. We closed relief Society's meeting by singing "Families can be together forever" This Is Asha's Favorite song. It is so sweet to hear her powerful and piercing testimony of the gospel and of Eternal families that is inbeded deeply in her Heart.
When We got home from church, after eating dinner, we gathered as a family for Family Home evening which we sometimes hold on Sunday rather than Monday because of busy schedules. We learned that we can have a piece of heaven In our Homes by keeping our Home Clean, tidy and inviting to the Spirit. We have made a commitment as a family to do better in this aspect which is hard to keep at the Orton's residence. Little by little, it will happen.
The whole purpose and main idea of this blog entry is to express my feelings of this Special Sunday and to share how thankful I am to know that we have a Father in heaven who loves us so much and has created a plan of happiness and Eternal families for us all. We are not alone in this world. Despite of the adversity, we have the gospel and the Savior and his atoning sacrifice as aids in this life and can find ways to be happy here on earth and find eternal happiness as eternal families One day.

Vote Yes On Prop 8
Bryan attended an adult meeting tonight regarding Proposition 8. It was a broadcast from Utah where Elders M. Russel Ballard and Quentin L. Cook spoke about same-sex marriage and the effects if Prop 8 fails. Unfortunately I couldn't attend but Bryan told me all about it.
We have been active in this campaign to preserve the wonderful institution of Marriage. We've been making phone calls, and tomorrow we as a family, are going to go help distribute yard signs to those families who have requested some. My good friend Lisa posted these remarks regarding Elder Cook's and Elder Ballard's talks on her blog and I couldn't have worded it better. She writes: "Elder Cook made the comment that in this day and age sin has been given the mask of tolerance. It's scary to think of all the things that could and probably will happen if enough Californians vote no on Prop 8. The ripple effects of that "tolerance" will effect our nation".
We are being asked to help where needed.
"Elder Ballard spoke directly to young single adults and young married couples who are involved with the Internet. Us computer savvy folks were encouraged to flood the Internet (our profiles, blogs, and such) with information about Proposition 8. They only way the word will be spread is if we open our mouths and talk. We were told to "go viral"
I agree!!!
We owe it to our ancestors, ourselves, and our children.

Today, after she finished her homework, she asked me if I could let her borrow some of my jewelry, I gave her some of my cool bracelets and then she went into her room and came out with this super cool Hannah Montana look. A Grateful ♥ at Conference

We really enjoy conference every time it comes around. It is such a nice reminder and assurance of the love our Heavenly Father and our savior have for us all. It makes me realize that we are so important to him that he provides us with a prophet to guide us in this latter days. How grateful I am for that!!! We live in this world full of adversity. It is nice to realize that we are not alone and that we have a Father in Heaven who is there for us to guide us every step of the way.
The other day, I was talking to a good friend of mine and I hope he didn't really feel this way but he said that this world and life is only filled with ugliness, violence, and horrible things. I told him, yes, it might be filled with ugliness but also with so much beauty. He replied, I don't think so. I said to him, look around you and see for yourself. We are filled with so many nice gifts from God daily. He still had that look in his face like thinking I was crazy.
I just have to say, how tremendously grateful I am to have the gospel and the certainty to know there is beauty in this world and despite of all the violence and horrendous things that we see daily, we have a vision of hope and a different perspective of things.
It also reminds me of the great responsibility we carry upon our shoulders to share this knowledge with our brothers and sisters who do not have it. I personally really need to work in this aspect.
I am so glad that my children have the opportunity to have the knowledge of the gospel and the prophet as well. Yesterday, during the first Sunday session of conference when President Monson spoke, Asha said, Look It's Prophet Thomas S. Monson, He is our leader. I replied: "yes you are right", and then I asked the question : So what should we do? Right away Bryce shouted: "Follow him!".
I am so thankful that this knowledge of the gospel and the prophet is so alive and planted in the lives of our children. Harder times will come and I pray that when they present theme selves, Our children will have the knowledge, blessings, wisdom, and tools to overcome them.
I am so grateful for Our prophet, we would all be lost without him.
I am so grateful for the love our Father in heaven has for all of us.

We Thought it would be good to document some special moments of Asha and Bryce with their Grandpa and Grandma Orton. These Pictures were taken last May for a special family gathering we had up In Tehachapi at John and Cherie's house. The Kids are so blessed to have them as their grandparents. They are both very loving and caring. Grandma Charlotte always has special goodies for them every time they see her including at church. The kids always look forward to seeing grandma and spending time with her reading books, coloring, and having walks and snacks together. Grandpa Neil, is just as caring. There are many times he has offered to babysit the kids when Bryan and I have had things to do. Grandpa Orton is also a great fan of their soccer games. He has been present at each of the kid's games on Saturdays. He cheers them up and takes lots of great pictures.
Thank you Grandpa and Grandma for being so caring and loving. You are a great example of faith, dedication, hard work, and love to us all.

For any of you who might not know her, this is my sweet and dear mom. I Just felt inspired to write about her in the blog today. There are just not enough words or the right words to express everything my heart feels for this wonderful Woman of God. She is truly my best friend (Just as my sweet Bryan) and I'm thankful for the wonderful relationship we have always shared. Even though she now lives in Texas, We spend countless hours on the phone whenever possible talking about anything and everything. I can never hear enough from her. She is an extraordinary woman of faith, great love and sacrifice. She is also very creative and talented! She is just super awesome and fun too! We all have been super busy with school, soccer, and various other activities.
Finally I have a chance to post some of the funnest things we've been up to. One of those things is Bryce's birthday party which was a great success. His Birthday celebration took place this past Friday, September 19Th, the day of his birthday.
Seriously! he had a blast with all of his friends who joined him. I have never seen him more excited in his life. This has probably been his best birthday yet.
I put a lot of time and effort in preparing everything and it was all worth it after seeing Bryce and all of the happy little faces.
Stacey Bryan and I started our day Friday Morning and put our hands and creativity to work.
The decorations included skull center pieces with cool dry Ice special effects, Indiana Jones table cloths and party ware. For dinner, we had Spaghetti with meet sauce, Parmesan cheese and parsley. We also included a tossed salad and bread rolls with butter. Bryan made the Spaghetti dinner and it turned so delicious!!! Everyone liked it.
After Dinner, we gathered the kids for a treasure hunt which included 2 treasure chests filled with Indiana Jones surprise treasure pouches for each child. They had fun looking for those.
The treasure hunt was followed by the cutting of the cake which was also decorated with Indiana Jones. Chocolate gold coins surrounded the cake. the Kids loved the coins and the chocolate rocks on the cake.
After the Cake, Bryce opened his presents and thanked everyone for coming. At the end of the party, the kids had Popsicles and played a little more. It was a totally fun party and a great success.

She was so happy and thankful to the tooth fairy. She decided to use her money for a Macdonald's pancake breakfast in bed since she had to stay home sick today. She is sick and needs respiratoty treatments. Hopefully she'll feel better soon!

Asha's FHE lesson

Asha gave the FHE lesson this week. This was her first FHE lesson ever prepared and given all by herself. On Sunday, she decided she wanted to do the lesson for our next FHE. Bryan and I were so proud and humbled by her desire. She came home that afternoon and buried herself in this task. She even prepared some visual aids made by her. We started the meeting by singing "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam" at Bryce's request. When it was time for her lesson, we gathered in the living room and eagerly listened to her teachings. Her lesson was titled: "Heavenly father has created a beautiful world for us" I quickly grabbed my school audio recorder and was able to record her touching lesson. She started by showing us one of her drawings specially prepared by her for the lesson. (see pictures of her visual aids). She continued by saying that we are so blessed to have this wonderful and beautiful world which Heavenly father has made for us because he loves us so. She taught us that we need to take care of everything that is given to us. We all felt the spirit in our home that day. Thank you Asha for your humble and grateful spirit. We learned a great lesson.

ILCY'S NEW HAIRCUT

Yesterday, I got a hair cut. It had been over 2 years since I had gone to the hair Salon.

I'm still getting used to it but I love it. I had a similar style the last time i cut it and I missed it so much so I cut it like that again. My friends Stacey and Cherie went with me during our girls get together. Now all 3 of us have new hairstyles!

Service Auction at Enrichment Night

This past Tuesday August 26Th I had the chance to attend Relief Society's Enrichment night.
We had a service Auction. It was such an awesome event!
Each sister had the chance to donate a service or talent for the auction. There were many things to choose from, Baby sitting, baked goods, home cleaning jobs, ballet lessons and the list goes on.
We all had to earn points to be able to participate in the auction and each service was worth certain amount of points.
Let me tell you, I came home so excited and very thankful.
I won 4 different services and I'm so excited to use them all. Here is the list of the services I won.

2 dz home made cookies
FHE treats for 1 month
Baby sitting overnight on the Friday of your choice
Plan and supervise a child's birthday party complete with invites and thank you's

I was definitely blessed that night and I'm thankful to have so many kind and caring sisters. All of these services will bless our family so much. It is great to be able to share our talents and our time with others. Relief society has taught me so much and I'm eternally grateful for that.

Back To School the first day

Today was the first day back to school at Virginia Ave Elementary school.
Asha Started 2ND grade in Mrs. Camps class. Bryce Started Kindergarten in Mrs. Munzlinger's class.
Now Bryce and Asha get to Attend school together in the same school. They were so excited last night. We all got ready for the big day today. Made sure uniforms, socks, and shoes were laid out and ready to go. The kids took night showers so they would be clean and fresh. They brushed teeth, said prayer, and Bryan gave each of the kids the usual and very special blessing for the school year. Those blessings are always special and we couldn't go with out them. Thanks Daddy!
This Morning was a little tough to get up. Not for the kids but for Bryan and I. I really couldn't sleep to well last night and I wanted to stay in bed a little longer. We got up at 6:30 and were out the door by 7:15.
The kids had breakfast in the school cafeteria and headed for their classroom when the bell rang.
Bryan and I were glad to see the teachers were pretty nice and super friendly. We all hope it will be a great school year. Here are some pictures of this morning .

Hello! It is 3:07pm.

I picked up the kids from school a few hours ago and I wanted to post each of the kid's day highlights at school to remember this day.

Bryce:

He met new friends and he is so excited that he found a friend that had chinese eyes.
There is a kid in his class that was smiling at everyone. Bryce thought this was funny
He got to color a picture about a boy going to school holding a book and he colored the book red because this is mommy's favorite color. Thanks Bryce ;)
He went to recess and went down the slide many times.
He found a big tree in the play ground and called it the Monster tree. It has a big hole in its trunk. "Bats live in the hole" he says.
In his classroom he got to play with clay and made a two headed human.

Asha:

Asha learned the name of her teacher, Mrs. Camps right away.
She was so excited because one of her best friends from last year is also in her class this year. her name is Gaby.
She read a book that talked about different books. (that's how she said it)
she got to play on her school's swings once again!!! She was so excited because she missed them during the summer break.

Today we celebrated Bryan's birthday.
The family and I had planned to do a surprise birthday Party for him at Mat and Melinda's.
After many struggles we made it happen!. Bryan didn't have a clue and he was totally surprised!
It was so much fun to celebrate with him. The whole day he had been a little sad and disappointed since he had spent the day doing errands instead of relaxing plus I left him with the kids the whole morning to attend a bridal shower that I was invited to (Ali's). (This was the only way to keep him away and unaware of what was being planned for him. Sorry Bryan! I love ya! Thanks for keeping the kids entertained the whole day pretty much. you're such a good daddy.)
After all, it was all worth it to him. He arrived at Melinda's to supposedly deliver a CD with Photographs. (by the way The CD was empty and he didn't have a clue)
When He got to Mat and Melinda's we all came out from our hiding places and surprised him!!!
It was so much fun to see his face.
The party was not only a surprise in itself, but it was full of several other surprises.

Bryan had been begging me for years!!!!! for an XBox. I had been hesitant about getting the XBox or any other kind of game consoles. Just Imagine! With one of those things is like saying good bye to my husband for hours!!!! I wasn't about to give up the few time we spend together as it is, for him to be glued to this thing. lol ;D
So I decided to give him an XBox cake instead!!! Clever don't you think? hahaha.
I thought it was an awesome Idea.
Because of various circumstances for Bryan not to find out and catch me in the act of making this beautiful masterpiece, my dear friend Stacey took over this Job. Thanks a million Stace! It turned out great! You rock!

Bryan was such in a good mood that we even got to see him act like a chicken and also dance the Macarena and perform some belly dancing for me! It was so much fun watching him. All of this acting and dancing was part of a fun game we played in Honor of Bryan. It was so much fun!

Of course after the party, which by the way ended early so Bryan could go to Best Buy to buy some games for his new Wii. He came straight home to try it out!

Party Time at Pump It Up!

The celebration of Asha's 7th birthday took place tuesday August 12th at 5:30pm at Pump It Up. She joined some great friends and jumped and played until she could no more!
Everyone had fun, Young and Old! Even Bryan and I had a try at Boxing. He totally beat me :(

Sunday was Asha's Birthday and she had a special day at church. The Primary kids sang to her and she got a birthday pencil from them. She also got a special gift from Grandma which is a personal journal and a card with $5 . she was so excited because Daddy had given her a $2 bill and Now she had $7 just like her age.
that early morning, I had planned to surprise her in the morning with the Happy birthday song while she was still in bed. Bryan went to a church meeting that early morning so Bryce and I had decided to do it together. As we were approaching her bedroom, she was already coming out of her room with her sleepy eyes. Bryce and I yelled : "Happy birthday Asha!!!" and the first thing she replied with her morning raspy voice and her eyes halfway open was,
Just one more year!!!! She was so excited. At first I didn't understand what she meant and then I asked her what she meant. With a huge smile from ear to ear she replied, Just one more year until I can be baptized!!!
I love her optimism,her diligence, and her excitement about being able to get baptized when she turns 8.
This is a subject so important to her and she constantly is aware of it.
She loves her savior so much and she's had a wonderful relationship with him through out her life. One night I remember clearly that she woke up a little scared from a nightmare and she got up and grabbed her picture of Jesus that sits on her vanity table and she conversed with him for quite a while and asked him to help her overcome her fear and to take away the "dinosaurs that were hiding under her bed" then She said "Good night Jesus I know you love me and will help me and I love you too" Her faith is so strong.
Asha is my constant reminder to do the things I'm supposed to be doing and she keeps the whole family in check. She's always the one that gathers us to do FHE and reminds us to pray when we forget. She's our peace maker and our great example.
I'm grateful for having the Gospel and for the great example that children are to us. We can learn so much from them.

Sweet and kind...

Things Asha did this past year:

Lost her 2 bottom front teeth.
grew a few inches taller
Attended 1st grade in Mrs. Roger's class
Made some nice friends in class like Shelby and Gaby
Learned how to read, write, add, subtract really well.
Got recognized for outstanding achievement at her School
Became quite an artist at drawing
Went to Disneyland for vacation.
Learned how to cook Chicken noodle soup.
Practiced writing a bike.
Came to know and to love our beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinkley and still remembers him "every" night in her prayers
Learned new primary songs
Gained a greater testimony of the savior and his gospel
reaffirmed that her favorite color is still pink
Got a puppy and named her Princess Bubbles
Lost her puppy and learned great faith and strength from the experience.

Pizzeria Mama Mia!!!!

Today we got pampered by the two men of the house. They were caught hands on some dough!!! They decided to prepare some Pizza for us girls and they did an awesome and delicious job. This is one of Bryan's specialties and he is teaching the kids to keep up this delicious tradition. He's such great dad and the kids love to do fun stuff like this with him.

Yesterday we had Family home evening. For the activity we decided to take the kids to the water park . They had so much fun and cooled quite a bit from this Bakersfield heat.
After the soaking, we all went to the dollar theatre to watch a cute little movie called Kit Kittredge. it's about a little girl reporter that lived during the early nineteen hundreds. It's a good family movie.
After the movie we went to CC Browns for ice cream and frozen yogurt. Delicious!!!
It was a fun night.

Soccer Season

Soccer season has started! This is both Asha's and Bryce's 1st year playing. They are super excited! We are having so much fun watching them. Bryce had his first practice yesterday. His coach's name is Hector Avila and the kids are having a blast with him. Jeff , our brother is the assistant coach for Bryce's team. It will be a fun season. About a week ago we took Bryce to get an X-ray of his hand that a doctor had ordered to look at his bone growth. Bryce thought it was so cool! He was so facinated to be able to see his hand bones. Here is a picture of it.

Today I had the sweet opportunity to babysit my sweet new nephew David and take his first Pictures! He was born May 15th 2008.
He is now 2 months old and growing more and more everyday.
He is so cute and I had lots of fun taking his pictures. Here are some of my favorites!
